Enchanting Festive Photos of Belfast Through the Years

Belfast is charming every season of the year. But the festive period is especially enchanting!

So to celebrate the lead up to Christmas, join us as we take a look back through the years at some winter highlights.

Christmas Tree at Belfast City Hall (1930s)

Plenty of Peace and Goodwill in Belfast as people gathered around the City Hall tree in the 1930s.

Though styles and trends have come and gone, it looks like City Hall has always been as magical as it is today.

Christmas Season Outside Anderson & McAuley’s Windows (1959)

This nostalgic photograph captures the atmospheric festive period in Belfast.

Taken in 1959, the seasonal snap was taken outside Anderson & McAuley’s windows.

The family owned business was renowned for the best Christmas display in Belfast.

A Winter Walk in Ballysillan Park, Belfast (1959)

What a magical photograph of Belfast adorned by winter snow.

Our idea of wrapping up warm and snug has certainly changed since those days!

Donegall Place (1963)

Charming displays of Christmas lights, illuminating Donegall Place back in 1963!

We love this black and white throwback.

Christmas Tree Outside Belfast City Hall (1969)

The exquisite Christmas tree standing tall and proud outside Belfast City Hall.

Definitely one of the most spectacular spots in Belfast to visit throughout the festive season!

Workmen Clearing the Snow (1963)

One of our favourites from the Belfast Telegraph archives. Workmen shown clearing the snow before the arrival of office workers.

We suspect it looks a little more fun that it actually was!

Ulster winter snow Glen Road Belfast November (1969)

A snapshot of snowfall in Belfast along Glen Road. Taken back in November, 1969.

Looks a little like a scene from The Shining, in the most festive way!

Leisureworld at Christmas (1980s)

One of Belfast’s best-loved toy shops, Leisureworld is captured here during the Christmas season.

After opening in Queen Street in 1976, customers were sad to see the shop close its doors in April 1998.

Stepping into Recent Years…

Belfast’s beauty is truly one of a kind.

And the city’s Christmas decorations become all the more twinkly in recent years!

Photographs have gone from black and white to vivid and vibrant, and we think Belfast looks amazing either way!

The annual Belfast Christmas Market has graced the grounds of Belfast City Hall for over a decade.

And this year’s markets look as wonderful as ever. The stalls offer visitors a range of goodies from around the globe.

Explore food and gifts from countries including Germany, Spain, France, Italy and local traders.

The striking building is the perfect backdrop for a magical day out.

So if you’re visiting Belfast this year, make sure you don’t miss out on the festivities!

At The Crum, we couldn’t be more excited for next year’s Christmas season when our doors have opened!

Belfast’s historic Crumlin Road Courthouse will look particularly stunning throughout the festive period. And we hope to welcome you to join us.
